The scoop from last week’s Song Circle; Next circle is Nov. 15, space is limited

That first moment when all of us sang together and saw and heard each other, after 7 months of being without that experience? Magical.

Many thanks to all who got their hardware and software set up to join, met 1:1 with Marv to ensure it worked, and made our first circle a reality. Thanks to Brian, our fabulous tech assistant, for helping people figure Zoom and Jamulus things out. And thanks to the incomparable Maggie Wheeler, a true leader of the Community Singing movement, for joining us. All proceeds from the circle were donated to When We All Vote.

In this brand-new venue for singing together, so much learning is happening! Next time we’ll have mic level checks at the start of the circle to ensure no one overdrives their mic, and we’ll have a new Jamulus server installed with all the latest and greatest. And we’ll sing at least one song from Lisa G. Littlebird’s Fall 2020 Singing Playlist, check it out.

All the open source developers at Jamulus continue to regularly publish new versions of the software. Those of you who are using Jamulus will notice that the software will display an “upgrade available” message — you can upgrade through the link on the SingOnline.org Quickstart page, which also has the steps to get up and running. Unless you’re hosting a circle or jam session, you won’t need the server, just the client (the file called “Jamulus”). Please do share your learnings and questions through our Contact page so everyone in our community can benefit.

The next SingOnline.org Song Circle will be Sunday, November 15, 4:00-5:00pm, with another rockstar guest songleader joining us to share a song. Space is limited, so check out the details here and let us know if you’re interested.
