Join Our Live Online Song Circle This Sunday!
Hello fans of live online singing,
Technologies to support all of us are continuing to evolve at light speed! Here are two we’ve discovered recently:
Blackhole. This is a “virtual audio driver” that allows you to route audio between apps on your computer. For example, in a live session, instead of playing a backing track through your computer’s speaker and having your microphone pick up the track and pipe it to Jamulus (or Zoom or wherever), you can connect iTunes (or SoundCloud or whatever) directly to Blackhole, and Blackhole directly to the app you’re using to send audio to your people. In this way, audio sources are internally linked to your output app with zero latency. Blackhole is a free product with sponsorship levels that provide additional benefits.
Reaper. This is a complete digital audio production application for computers, offering a full multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing and mastering toolset. The free version is incredibly powerful, allowing you to do such things as incorporating all your backing tracks, controlling what you’ll be routing through Blackhole, using a click track or metronome, and much more.
We’re experimenting with these tools and will keep you posted.
The sixth SingOnline.org Song Circle, where you can see and hear every word from everyone, is this Sunday, March 21, 3:45-5:00 Pacific. And…the amazing Arnaé Batson will be leading one of the songs! Arnaé is a Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, and producer who is widely regarded for her work with the internationally acclaimed ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, and her own The SSING Network, the Hearts Afire Community Choir, and the Voices Raised - LA Vocal Collective.
In our Song Circle, we share easy-to-learn songs in the oral tradition — no need to read music, no musical experience necessary, just a desire to join good souls in harmony. Contact me at marvsingonline at gmail dot com if you’re interested in joining us.
Warmly,
Marv
