Online Singing News from Europe; Song Circle #8 Next Sunday!
Hello friends.
So much is happening in Europe with live online singing and music-making! Check out the Links page on our site for great examples; the latest is from the Netherlands, where Vocaal Digital’s Balk Festival is bringing Jamulus-based groups together from all over Europe to share songs with each other, live! To check out their most recent festival, go here, and scroll to 1:45:07 for one of many impressive songs — a group performing Enya’s May It Be. (And yes, for LOTR fans, that’s the one from The Lord of the Rings.)
A quick plug here for FOSO (Friend of SingOnline.org) Maggie Wheeler’s Golden Bridge Choir — their online concert is Sunday, May 23, featuring FOSO Arnaé Batson and the great Coco Love Alcorn, among many others.
And don’t forget about our SingOnline.org Song Circle next Sunday, May 16, 3:45-5:00 Pacific. If you’re not already in our circle, and you’re within 1000-1500 miles of the San Francisco Bay Area*, come sing with us online! We sing easy-to-learn contemporary songs shared in the oral tradition, and you can see and hear every word from everyone. Said one of our singers a few months back, “It’s the first time I’ve sung in harmony in a group in almost a year!”
No previous experience necessary, you just need to be able to carry a tune, that’s it! If you haven’t joined us before, you’ll need a brief Zoom-based onboarding session in advance, and those slots book up, so please get in touch ASAP if you’re interested — email Marv@SingOnline.org.
Yours in song,
Marv
* Live online singing via Jamulus works well when you’re within 1000-1500 miles of the Jamulus server, which in our case is in San Francisco. It has to do with the speed of light — how long it takes voices to travel over the Internet, and what is the longest “travel time” possible before our brains perceive a delay.
