State of the Art in Online Singing

Hi Friends,

I hope this note finds you well during this challenging time and finding opportunities to sing in person or online. I was fortunate to be a member of Maggie Wheeler’s Golden Bridge Choir this fall, which went online and welcomed singers from around the world. Watch this page for a video of last weekend’s show, which included guest performances by David Wilcox, Pura Fe, and Luke Wallace.

The pandemic continues to spur improvements and innovations in live online singing technologies (ie. technology that eliminates the lag, so people can sing together online and see and hear every word from everyone). Check out this new video from Vocaal Digitaal, a group in the Netherlands that uses Jamulus for audio, Zoom for video, and streams their performances live to YouTube so the entire world can watch. Scroll to 1:22:20 in the video to see 15 singers in full harmony (Note: Jamulus is capable of hosting far more singers than 15.) Also, just a reminder that there are a number of companies now providing Jamulus servers, for a fee, so you don’t have to set up your own. See our Links page to get connected.

Stay tuned for news about our SingOnline.org Song Circle in 2022! I’m wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.

Warmly,

Marv
